Dive Brief:
- "HR manager" is Glassdoor's fifth best job for this year with almost 4,500 job openings and a median base salary of $85,000, according to its Best Jobs in America for 2018.
- "Data scientist" topped the list, followed by "devops engineer," "marketing manager," and "occupational therapist." The job site rated positions based on earning capability, available openings and job satisfaction.
- Of the 50 best jobs, 20 are in the tech sector, with front-end engineer and data analyst on the list. Four jobs related to business operations also made the list, including strategy manager, business development manager, business intelligence developer and business analyst.
Dive Insight:
Tech jobs are the fastest growing occupations according to other lists, too. LinkedIn’s 2017 U.S. Emerging Jobs Report lists big data engineers, data scientists, machine learning engineers and other tech specialists as emerging positions for which candidates are in high demand.
Business-orientated occupations also appear to be growing. Titles like "business analyst" or "business development manager" aren't new, but business intelligence developer, for example, is a newer title with roots in technology.
What's unclear, however, is whether employers will be able to fill these jobs. Businesses are increasingly trying to address the skills gap by thinking outside the box. Some, for example, have partnered with colleges and universities to develop their own degree programs, as Microsoft and Linux have done, to develop the kind of skilled workforce needed to fill these jobs.
