The Muse, a job posting and search company largely used by younger job seekers, has acquired Fairygodboss, an online career community for women, the companies announced Oct. 12. The purchase price was not disclosed.
Both will remain separate consumer brands, retaining individualized job seeker experiences, but the companies will work “to integrate the employer platform so companies that use either platform to hire can have a seamless experience,” Kathryn Minshew, founder of The Muse, told HR Dive over email.
The Muse’s job seeker base is largely Generation Z and millennials, and it touts a values-based approach to its job postings. The company encourages employers to post testimonials from employees to showcase an “authentic” look into a company’s culture and values, and it has gathered benefits data and career resources for its user base, Minshew said.
Through its acquisition of Fairygodboss, The Muse aims to expand its employer offerings and “engage a more diverse job seeker base,” Minshew said. The company heard from its employer customers a desire for more reach for their testimonials as well as ways to improve retention of their hires.
Fairygodboss serves millions of women a year, according to its employer site, and works with large brands including Apple, Salesforce, PwC, Cisco and Pfizer, among others. A large aspect of the site is its community function, where women can post questions and hold discussions around career opportunities.
“Over the past several years, there has been a massive change in the expectations placed on HR leaders, and in the ways that companies are attracting and retaining their talent,” Minshew said. “The Muse aims to help top employers navigate these changes by giving them access to diverse talent in a way that builds relationships, not transactions.”
