Dive Brief:
- The news is good from the nonprofit sector when it comes to employment, according to a recent research report from the PNP Staffing Group.
- The firm's Nonprofit Salaries & Staffing Report found that more than 50% of the survey respondents reported workforce increases, and employee transfers from the for-profit sector also is on the rise as people look to nonprofits as a favored place for the next job or to renew a career.
- Overall, the study reports that the nonprofit sector has experienced 20% growth in the last decade. By contrast, the for-profit sector has grown just 2-3% over the same time period.
Dive Insight:
While the for-profit sector has lagged non-profit growth, both are concerned with the same critical HR issue – talent management – as 2016 progresses. PNP defines talent management primarily as recruiting and retaining the best and most capable staff in an increasingly competitive marketplace.
As the talent marketplace continues to shrink, finding the right employees to hire becomes more difficult, according to PNP CEO Gayle Brandel, who believes that non-profit employers in general need to create a more effective organizational recruitment strategy that spreads a wide net and attracts hidden talent in the marketplace.
PNP Executive Vice President Ira Madin adds that for HR leaders within the nonprofit sector, keeping salaries competitive also is a top priority. Without it, organizations will have a tough time attracting talent and holding on to the staff that is on board.
And that's clearly a primary challenge for all U.S. employers, profit or nonprofit.
