SparkEffect today announced that Kim Bohr has been named President and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 1, 2026. Michael (Mike) Humphries, who, with business partner and Firm Founder, Tom Waldron, built and led Waldron since 2001, will continue in his role as Chair of the Board. In 2023, Humphries, then President & CEO, and Bohr, the Firm’s Chief Operating Officer (COO), merged San Francisco-based Torchiana into Waldron to form SparkEffect; Humphries has held the Chair & CEO role since the merger and rebranding, and Bohr was awarded the President & COO title shortly thereafter. The transition reflects a long-planned succession strategy and marks the next chapter in SparkEffect’s leadership and strategic evolution.
Bohr joined the organization in early 2020 with the mutual objective of ultimately succeeding Humphries and became an equity owner in 2022. Since her hire, Bohr has worked alongside Humphries and the Firm’s executive team to navigate the Firm’s journey through the Covid pandemic, merger discussions and integration, significant operational enhancement, and strategic expansion. “This has been the succession plan from the beginning,” said Mike Humphries, Chair of the Board at SparkEffect. “Kim joined the business as the intended future CEO, and over time, she has gained the requisite knowledge, earned the necessary trust, followership, and confidence to step fully into this role. Kim makes an extraordinary intellectual, operational, leadership, and client impact contribution every waking hour. After three years as SparkEffect, we are in the right place as a Firm, and this is the right moment to bring her succession forward.”
Humphries emphasized that the transition is not a retirement for him, but rather a shift in responsibilities, recognizing our respective evolution and objectives, designed to drive SparkEffect’s positive momentum. “I’m not stepping away from SparkEffect,” Humphries said. “As Board Chair, I’ll remain actively involved in the business through strategic input and guidance, financial and results oversight, executive leadership support, selective client work, business development, and community engagement. I care deeply about this company, and I’m excited to support Kim and the team in this next phase.”
Under Bohr’s leadership, SparkEffect is further expanding its global presence and strengthening its digital and physical footprint. It continues to evolve from a provider of external expertise into a company known for its own intellectual property, thought leadership, and end-to-end support for HR, strategic executive leadership, Boards of Directors, and workforce transformation.
“We are at an important point in SparkEffect’s evolution,” said Kim Bohr, President and CEO of SparkEffect. “We have spent the last several years expanding and perfecting our impact as a company, strengthening our talent, refining our processes, and building the foundation for further scale. We are accelerating. Our focus is on expanding SparkEffect’s reach, deepening the impact and importance of our expertise in our human-centered way.”
Bohr brings a combination of practitioner experience, operating leadership, and growth expertise that uniquely positions her to lead SparkEffect into its next phase. SparkEffect will continue to maintain its CPI partnership for global reach while investing in its own differentiated offerings and thought leadership for the evolving HR, leadership, and governance landscapes.
