Dive Brief:
- What are the two important factors in being a great place to work? Innovation and creativity, according to a Fast Company analysis of the recently released Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For in 2016. Naturally, having outstanding benefits and compensation, a diverse workforce and a generous vacation policy – among programs and policies – also have an impact.
- Released annually by Great Place to Work, the highly sought-after list is mainly comprised of results of the Trust Index Employee Survey, which is a random sample of employees from the nearly 1,000 employers who apply each year. Employee responses are evaluated based on views of management credibility, overall job satisfaction and camaraderie, and account for two-thirds of the overall score, according to the article.
- The other main segment is formed from responses to a "Culture Audit" on pay and benefit programs, hiring practices, internal communication, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts, according to Fast Company.
Dive Insight:
"Trust" and "feeling engaged" rate highly among employees from winning companies, according to Ann Nadeau, chief marketing officer of Great Place to Work, who told Fast Company that compensation and benefits also rank high.
Nadeau also told Fast Company that fair pay and unique benefits are fundamental components of a great workplace, as well as key differentiators. In 2016, she said, 79% of employees surveyed at winning companies felt that people in their organizations were paid fairly and 73% said they receive a fair share of the profits.
