Dive Brief:
- Between a company car or a remote work option, remote work is the hands-down winner, according to a new survey. For those looking at a new employer, almost three-quarters (72%) of job seekers polled say they would rather have regular remote work days instead of the company car.
- The survey, "Recruiting Multigenerational Talent" from Runzheimer, a business vehicle, relocation information and expense management services provider, also found that 56% percent of HR professionals believe it’s more difficult to entice millennials to relocate, compared to other generations.
- Runzheimer, which surveyed 200 HR decision-makers at organizations with at least 500 employees and 1,000 U.S. adult job seekers, found that 34.5% of millennials believe it’s important to relocate at least once in their career, but 31% say that if the employer’s headquarters are in an “undesirable” city, it can be a deal breaker.
Dive Insight
One interesting finding that illustrates how differently HR leaders and millennials think was that 78% of HR professionals admit that organizations are less likely to relocate millennials because of their reputation for job-hopping. Yet, 48% of millennial job seekers report being with their current employer for at least three years.
Donna Koppensteiner, senior vice president of business development at Runzheimer, said the survey's main objective is to call attention to the obvious perception gap between job seekers and HR departments, adding that in order to attract top talent and improve retention, employers need their HR professionals to have a thorough understanding of what potential employees want from programs and perks.
