Dive Brief:
- In the HR world compliance is at the root of much employment-based litigation.
- Some HR leaders in a recent poll admitted that their employer may not be doing what it needs to be doing in compliance with state and federal regulations, according to an article at BenefitsPro.com.
- The survey from Replicon, which provides cloud-based timesheet software, happened at HR Tech Conference in October. Of the 124 HR professionals polled, 17% reported that their company had not been in compliance with wage and work hour rules in the past year.
Dive Insight:
Apart from the 17%, other HR pros appear to be unaware of their firm's situation, as 37% of respondents either "don’t know" the actual compliance level of their organization or believe it "could use some improvement," the Replicon study found. In addition, 67% said their organization hadn't done a compliance audit in the past year. That response is not good, Replicon said, since around half said compliance was among their responsibilities.
“Conducting a compliance audit on a regular basis — at least every 12 months — is important to ensure that your company is vigilant against wage and hour regulations,” Jose Gaona, vice president of product strategy at Replicon, told BenefitsPro.
With the DOL's new overtime rules expected to become part of workplace law in 2016, now might be a good time to do those compliance audits.
