Dive Brief:
- People who want to check out a potential employer more often than not will visit Glassdoor as part of their due diligence. Now, according to the The Atlantic, women who want specific information on how female-friendly a potential employer might be have an alternative.
- The site is called Fairygodboss, which The Atlantic says has been called “Yelp for maternity leave benefits.”
- Much as is the case with Glassdoor, women can post anonymous employer reviews, offering their perspective on an employer's maternity-leave benefit or work-life balance (many employers say they do, but do little to foster it).

Georgene Huang, one of the site's founders, told the magazine that her search for a woman friendly site when she was two months pregnant yielded very little valuable data. Working with a former co-worker, the two launched Fairygodboss in March 2015. Today it has more than 19,000 reviews of over 7,000 employers. According to the article, Americans dominate the reviews, with the site's median age ranging fro 25 to 34 and median annual salary range at $80,000 to $100,000.
Marianne Cooper, a sociologist at Stanford’s Clayman Institute for Gender Studies and a member of the site’s advisory board, told The Atlantic that women will likely not remain with an employer who ignores negative workplace issues like poor advancement opportunities or excessive hours.
