Organizations must consider the value of mobile optimized recruitment strategies, or risk losing out on top talent. That is the advice of global talent acquisition and management firm, Alexander Mann Solutions.
The suggestion comes in response to data from the Pew Research Center, which shows that one-in-five Americans are now ‘smartphone only’ internet users, with separate research from Kelton indicating that 86% of all jobseekers begin their search on their mobile device.
However, it is estimated that just 36% of application processes are optimized for cell phones, which the consultancy believes must change if employers are to engage with the widest pool of available candidates.
Beth Miller, Vice President – Americas at Alexander Mann Solutions, explains:
“As these figures demonstrate, HR and talent management teams have reached a point where there can be no excuse for continuing with a jobsite or application process that isn’t mobile friendly. That’s not to say that job adverts need to simply be readable on a smaller screen: the entire candidate journey should ideally be mobile-enabled. This is particularly true when you consider that highly-prized tech and digital talent is most likely to be engaged through a handheld device.
“Even simple approaches to mobile integration can have a big impact on sourcing strategies. For example, a ‘quick apply’ button which pulls key information from platforms such as LinkedIn - and allows hiring managers to reach out - can make it easier for candidates to engage on the move.
“Despite the proliferation of cellular devices and smartphones, mobile-optimization is not yet something which naturally forms hiring strategies. HR teams must lead this shift in mind-set until mobile recruitment organically becomes an organizational priority – and given how tech-savvy candidates are today, playing catch-up is not an option.”
