Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY

The purpose of this classification is to assist Developmentally Disabled (DD) clients with identifying, understanding and controlling their personal behavior(s), and provide behavior intervention support to clients & staff.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Promote the agency Code of Ethics and Client Rights in all job-related activities.

  • Act as client advocate (e.g., address their issues/concerns, ensure appropriate client treatment).

  • Provide group &/or individual support such as EQIP and/or AOD to DD clients in the ICFMR, Licensed Home or supported living settings;

  • Document services delivered In the ICFMR and or licensed home / supported living settings.

  • Provide behavioral and counseling summaries to the QIDP/County Board, for initial, quarterly & annual meetings;

  • Provide monthly behavior support summaries to individual teams for individuals served in licensed homes or supported living settings.

  • Participate in team meetings for individuals served.

  • Conduct staff training (e.g., habilitation specialists) on behavioral techniques & individualized behavior support plans; provide support to staff on appropriate plan implementation & behavior support.

  • Coordinate with individual and their team in the development and implementation of behavior support plans (BSP) from beginning to end (i.e., written plan team approval, guardian/resident approval, staff training of BSP; BSP on floor);review behavioral data & implement or revise BSP, as needed.

  • Provide support & assistance to families/friends with regard to client therapeutic issues.

  • Provide support & assistance to community resources on the cognitive behavioral program provided in the DD service program

  • Assist with admission & discharge process with regard to recommendations & behavioral issues/concerns.

  • Perform crisis intervention, when necessary.

  • Perform other related duties, as assigned (e.g., attend & participate in mandatory staff meetings, complete required in-service training on an annual basis).

Qualifications

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in human services related field (Psychology, Sociology, Social Work, etc)  Three years related experience working with individuals with Developmental Disabilities and implementing behavioral support strategies and plans.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Computer Skills

Skill in operation of personal computer, laptop, & related software; use of office equipment (e.g., printers, faxes, copiers). Must complete 40 hours of in-service training on an annual basis.

May be exposed to harsh language, threats of violence. May be exposed to unusual noises, unpleasant odors. May exceed normal physical requirements in extenuating circumstances.
