Dive Brief:
- Basic benefits (healthcare, PTO, paid sick days) still rule the roost in terms of employee needs, but they are far from the most out-of-the-box perks some employers are offering to attract and retain talent, according to Glassdoor's latest benefits report.
- With 57% of people on Glassdoor reporting benefits and perks being among their top considerations before accepting a job, it now takes more than free food and on-site gyms to spice things up perk-wise.
- Glassdoor pulled 20 companies from its benefits reviews and ratings who provide perks and benefits that go beyond the basics, with life coaching services, egg freezing, free amusement park passes and more.
Dive Insight:
Among the more creative perks from the Glassdoor Top 20 bestowed on employees, REI offers two paid days off, called "Yay Days," per year to enjoy their favorite outside activity. Salesforce workers receive six days of paid volunteer time off a year (as well as $1,000 a year to donate to a charity of their choice). World Wildlife Fund employees take Friday off every other week, also known as "Panda Fridays." PwC employees can receive $1,200 per year for student loan debt reimbursement, and Accenture pays for gender reassignment for their employees as part of their commitment to LGBT rights and diversity.
HR and benefits leaders need to take a good look at what specific perks, apart from the typical trends, they might use to boost their recruitment brand and set them apart from the pack.
